The Cottage

cottage1.jpgcottage2.jpgThe former dairy of our smallholding has been converted into a charming, one bedroom holiday cottage, complete with beamed ceilings and some original, interesting ironwork features. The cottage has a gravelled, fenced forecourt with garden furniture and planted tubs. The forecourt is also a safe place for pets to relax (your well behaved dog is most welcome, at a small extra charge) as the abundance of wildlife can be quite exhausting!

Briefly, accommodation includes lounge/diner, kitchen with microwave, bathroom with shower, toilet and basin, one double bedroom. There is gas central heating, and rent includes all fuel and power, bed linen and towels. There is outdoor furniture, and parking for 2 cars.

Enter the slate floored kitchen through a stable door which is lovely to open in the warmer weather. The kitchen is fully equipped with tableware, pots and pans, glasses and jugs. There is a full size electric cooker, microwave and fridge with ice box.

Double doors lead through to the lounge/dining room with comfortable leather suite, dining table and chairs. Look out onto the old stable and granary through the window, with nearly three feet wide embrasures, at the front and over the fields to the rear. There is a TV, with integral DVD player and iPod dock and a radio/tape/CD player, a selection of novels and countryside reference books just in case you can’t wait to identify that fungi, bird or wildflower that you’ve not seen before! A Welsh dictionary is also amongst the books, as a translation of place names is often very interesting and informative.

A comfortable double bedroom leads off the lounge furnished with a contemporary double bedstead complete with crisp, white cotton linen and finished off with a snuggly, Welsh woollen throw made from Jacobs fleece and woven at a local mill. It also has a wardrobe, bedside cabinets and a chest of drawers.

The bathroom has a good sized walk in shower, toilet, basin and extractor fan. All the linen and towels are provided, although we would appreciate you bringing your own beach towels.

The cottage is centrally heated and double glazed so autumn and winter breaks are very snug (all fuel and power is included in the rent). Whatever time of year you choose to visit us, we would like you to start to unwind as soon as you arrive, so there will always be a bottle of wine and handmade, local chocolates to welcome you, and if available, some of our own eggs or honey.

Please feel free to sit in the garden at the back of the cottage and watch the birds in the old apple tree or in the pond garden where there are newts and dragonflies. The little fence around the cottage is only for your convenience, to keep the chickens and guinea fowl out, not to keep you in! We would love you to explore Blaenfforest and experience the peace and tranquility to be found here.

If you wish, we can do a small shop for you so there is no need to bother bringing groceries from home or dashing straight to the shops. Please telephone or e-mail to arrange this at least three days before you are due to arrive.
